Universal Avionics is a US based company, part of the Elbit Systems group, that produces avionics for forward fit and retrofit solutions for many aircraft types and manufacturers. They serve many different markets: business aviation, airlines & cargo, government & special mission, helicopters, etc.
Our software simulates all the major Universal Avionics components.

EFI-890R
We simulate the EFI-890R Advanced Flight Display which is the (co-)pilot’s main view on the status of aircraft and systems. We implement the Primary Flight Display (PFD) in both normal as well as composite view mode, the Multifunctional Flight Display (MFD) in both Naviagation/Map as well as in HSI view, and the Engine Indicating and Crew Alerting System (EICAS).
By default the software is used in a 4 screen configuration with one pair of PFD & MFD on each side for Pilot and Co-Pilot respectively. The software can also be setup in customized configurations (e.g. 3 screen config)
UNS-1Ew
We simulate the UNS-1Ew Flight Management System (FMS) in high detail including Fly-by/Fly-over, Holding Patterns and Satellite Based Augmentation System (SBAS) approaches. We use native ARINC 424 navigation data.
RCU
We simulate the Radio Control Unit (RCU) in full dual mode configuration. Dual side Nav and Com radios can be tuned from both Pilot as well as Co-Pilot RCU. Cross tuning (X TUNE) functionality is simulated to tune opposite side radio’s in case one RCU fails.
Also transponder configuration is simulated, including the usage of the RCU as control interface to configure the Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) (if installed).
Control Panels
We simulate all the different Universal Avionics Control Panels which can be used in both a dual seat as well as a single seat cockpit setup.

Key Features

Distributed architecture
Each simulated component is a separate application. The different applications can run distributed over multiple PC’s over a Local Area Network (LAN). All applications fully auto discover each other without any need for IP address configurations.

X-Plane
The Universal Avionics simulation solution works with Laminar Research X-Plane through custom developed plugins. Any aircraft can be used.

Controller Area Network (CAN)
In a desktop trainer configuration the virtual software simulated control panels can be used. In a full hardware simulator the virtual panels can be replaced with real hardware panels that interface very easily via CAN messaging.

ARINC 424
We use native ARINC 424 navigation data in the Flight Management System. Revisions 15 upto 20 are supported. Either data from your own subscribed ARINC 424 navigation data provider (e.g. Jeppesen/Boeing, or others) can be used, or alternatively the open source FAA CIFP
Special Integrations
TCAS
An external simulated Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) computer can be interfaced with the Universal Avionics simulation solution. The PFD shows Resolution Advisory (RA) commands on the vertical speed indicator. The MFD shows the position of intruder traffic on the map. Also TCAS test pattern is available. The TCAS config can be controlled from the RCU.
TAWS
An external simulated Terrain Awareness and Warning System (TAWS) computer can be interfaced with the Universal Avionics simulation solution. The MFD map can be selected to show the relative terrain clearance. The TAWS computer also generates the different terrain warning audio callouts.
WXR
An external simulated Weather Radar (WXR) computer can be interface with the Universal Avionics simulation solution. The MFD can be selected to show the WXR data, corresponding to the actual simulated weather in X-Plane. The WXR tilt and gain can be set from the Universal Avionics control panel. Also a WXR test pattern is available.
